Matonyok organization has been working together with VSO in identifying schools in Loitoktok sub county to benefit from the menstrual cup project . This is a project meant to help the needy girls during their menstrual period .
Menstrual cup is an hygienic alternative to sanitary towel. It is economically and environment friendly and sustainable especially for those who cannot afford the sanitary towels.
One menstrual cup could be used to a period of up to 5 years. Most of the beneficiaries of this project have been noted to use a piece of cloth during their menstrual period which is not very hygienic as compared to the menstrual cup.Worse still, some girls would miss school during their menstruation due to lack of sanitary towel.
It is due to these reasons that Matonyok organization, together with VSO started this project. Girls from Hope Center ,which are students of Lenkai Christian School, were among the first beneficiaries of the menstrual cup project.
A total of 500 girls i.e 250 girls in Kimana ward and 250 girls in Rombo have benefited from the menstrual cup project so that they it can make them feel loved and comfortable as well during their studies.
The menstrual cup project has targeted the following schools: Olorika Primary School, Entonet Secondary, Olemapitet Manhae Secondary School and Olchorro Mixed Secondary Schools. The girls received a training of how to use the menstrual cup.
This project is to continue for the next two years and we will keep on partnering with organizations with the same agenda as ours, the agenda of walking together. Inclusion to all and for all.
As part of our efforts to promote menstrual health and hygiene, we introduced menstrual cups to the female students in the schools. We provided education and training on menstrual hygiene management and distributed menstrual cups to girls at Kimana Primary, Enkii Primary, Kuku Primary, and the secondary school. This initiative aimed to address menstrual health challenges, promote sustainable menstrual hygiene practices, and empower girls to stay in school with dignity and confidence.
